Henry has some interesting breeding, he was born in 1992, the
same year I arrived in the UK. His dam is a full shire and sire was
Crysinsky, a Irish Draught cross thoroughbred. The thoroughbred part
was Nijinsky II, a derby winner in
1970 who died in 1992.
Henry spent the first 8 years of his "working" life at the Markfield
Equestrian Centre in Leicestershire. Markfield took charge of his
schooling. My great grandfather was also from Leicestershire.
Henry left Markfield when he was purchased by a former pupil who unfortunately could not keep up riding. So Henry now lives with us.
This is the first horse I have owned, I have been "learning" to ride. I rode a little when I was young but that was mainly on friends farm hacks. So this is a big adventure for me.
So, this is Henry.
We don't know as much about Hector, he is 9 years old, 14.1 hands and a very afectionate pony. We are taking our time with him as we don't know what he has done in the past. He can be nervous sometimes and needs lots of reassurance when riding. We think he might have had a few problems in the past but he has changed for the better after seeing the dentist. No fillings, jst lots of rasping.
He was described as "a family pet, more like a big dog than a horse! He will carry up to fourteen stone but also happy to lead rein little ones!"
Paula will be doing a sponsored ride on Hector in April and it will be very interesting to see how they get on.
The image at the top is of an idilic scene. What could be better than seeing these lovely animals out in open spaces.
